We went for a sunrise boat ride with this man and his monkey while learning about the various religious sites along the way and documenting what we saw. In the evening we walked along the Ganges river- visiting with the locals and experiencing their rich culture. Sometimes the things you see here aren't pleasant and can catch you off guard, however I believe they can be documented tastefully and in an artistic way.

Varanasi

One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth, Varanasi is the spiritual capital of India and Hinduism. Every morning began with rituals along the banks of the Ganges River- considered one of the most sacred rivers in Hinduism.

It is believed that bathing in the holy waters of the Ganges and performing rituals along its ghats (riverfront steps) can cleanse one's sins and lead to spiritual liberation.

The chaotic streets of Varanasi are lined with ancient temples, vibrant markets, and narrow winding streets.

Every evening, the Ganga Aarti (a ceremony) takes place at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, attracting a massive crowd.

I took this image on our way to the ritual. By getting low to the water I was able to amplify the reflections of the city lights.

AGRA

In the chaos of Holi Festival, I was only able to take a few shots in fear that my camera would be destroyed.

This man stood out because of his bright blue eyes and he was more than happy to have his photo taken.

UDAIPUR

We would wake up early each morning and walk down to the edge of the lake to watch the sunrise. We could escape the noise of the city down here. It became our morning routine and solidified itself as one of the highlights of the journey though India.

JAIPUR

Nahargarth Fort stretches above the seemingly endless city of Jaipur. I watched the sunset from on top of this ancient landmark.

I’ve never been to a place as rich in culture, religion, smells, music and food. I loved documenting the experience with my camera through the bustling streets, sacred rivers and world famous landmarks- having a mixture of strange and meaningful connections with locals along the way.
